NORTHROP F-5A-2000 FREEDOM FIGHTER KINETIC 1/48

Turkish Air Force F-5A-2000 Kinetic 1/48

IMG_3197

This is a nice kit from Kinetic, box number 48020, 1/48 scale. Engraved panel lines has nice depth. Generally no fitting problem. Canopy can be build open position but i prefered closed because of modernized cockpit mentioned below. Flap/Slat can be make extend or retract position. There is not much detail in landing gear bays also struts.

Kit gives F-5A cockpit but my aircraft is F-5A-2000 modernized. Their cockpits and avionics are improved as much as possible like F-16. Because these F-5’s were used for training before F-16 squadrons. To make this modernized cockpit first i ordered F-5E cockpit detail set(aires), that was not enough. I had to add some multi function displays. But i didnt like the result and i closed canopy.

Aires F-5E detail set were used for landing gear bays. Resin nose gear bay fits normal but main landing gear bays thicker than kits one. Not for wing size. It needs a lot of cutting and sanding. Also i added some wire to simulate hyraulic lines.

All white antennas are hand made from plastic.

Wing tip fuel tank navigation lights are made with clear plastic parts. There is no clear parts for this lights. Also beacon lights on tail was made with extra clear plastic.

Martin Baker MK16 seat is hand made from plastic.

Pilot is from PJ Production F-16/F-18 pilots.

SUU-20 training pod is from Hasegawa Aircraft Weapons:A

All paints are Vallejo acrylics.

Decals are from TANDECAL – TD48002

TURKISH AIR FORCE KC-135R STRATOTANKER – ITALERI 1/72

TURKISH AIR FORCE KC-135R STRATOTANKER

IMG_3131

Model is Italeri, 1281 box number, 1/72 scale KC-135R/FR Stratotanker kit. Grey color plastic parts and engraved detailed panel lines. 2 piece fuselage, 2 part each wing and stabilizer. All these opposite parts (upper and lower wing or left and right fuselage) are not symmetric. I dont know this is special for this model or mold mistake but especially wing mounting impossible to make symmetric each wing, not possible mounting left and right wing symmetric to fuselage  and also give the dihedral angle. A lot of work need for this. Engine mounting to wing is also big problem. Engine pylons are not suitable to wing. There are really big gap between and you have very small area to make putty/sanding operation. Crew entry and cargo door can be open position. There are some detail in the fuselage but i did the cargo door closed. Cockpit is less detailed, instrument panel is decal. Not big problem, cockpit inside is mostly invisible because of the narrow cockpit windows. There are some gaps between clear parts and fuselage, eyebrow windows are most problem area in clear parts. Fitting main cockpit windows is mostly good. Nose gear bay has some detail but main landing gear bays are empty. Boom ruddervators has very small attach point so it is difficult to glue them and also you have to give special dehidral angle for boom ruddervators.

Modifications:

  • Some scratch build detail in the cockpit although difficult to see inside. Glareshield was detailed, engine fire switches added because they are visible from outside, thrust lever was added and seat belts. All added components are Evergreen plastic and seat belts are tamiya masking tape.
  • Landing gear bays were detailed with plastic and different size of wires.
  • Crew entry door was scratch build from evergreen plastic. Because no detail on the orijinal one.
  • Engine fan blades was built using evergreen plastic.
  • eyebrow, fuselage windows and boom operator windows were built with plexiglass plastic.
  • All big and small antennas are scratch build from plastic and cable antenna from fishing gut to make Turkish Air Force type KC-135. This antenna not included in the model.

TURKISH AIR FORCE F-104G STARFIGHTER – HASEGAWA 1/48

TURKISH AIR FORCE F-104G STARFIGHTER

This kit 1/48 scale, Hasegawa, box number 07219, F-104C Starfighter model. I converted this F-104C to F-104G model. Main difference is tail between C and G model. Tail converted to G model with evergreen plastic parts.

Kit totaly same quality with TF-104 mentioned previous model.

  • MK-83 bomb from Hasegawa Aircraft Weapons:A.
  • Pilot from Aires-Aero Bonus
  • Cockpit base is Aires detail set, instrument panel also colorless photo-etch coming with detail set.
  • Martin Baker MK07 seat from Aires.
  • Canopy locking system and mirror from Eduard detail set.
  • Canopy inside de-icing pipes are plastic styrene hand made because no detail set coming with Aires for this system.
  • Pitot tube metal from Master Model.

TURKISH AIR FORCE TF-104G STARFIGHTER – HASEGAWA 1/48

TURKISH AIR FORCE TF-104G STARFIGHTER

IMG_2806

This kit is 1/48 scale, 07240 box numbered Hasegawa TF-104 Starfighter. Very precise and sharp engraved panel lines in my opinion. There are two type exhaust and inside well detailed. Landing gear areas, struts and optional airbrakes are also good detailed. For loading there are only wing tip fuel tanks for this aircraft. There is no armament. Flap/Slat positions are optional. Air intakes are standart F-104, very small intake space so not possible to see inside. That means very easy intake assembly. Cockpit detail is normal. Seats are given Martin Baker MK07 but i used Lockheed C-2 type seat from AIRES for this kit. 6 clear parts canopy is the most problem area on this model especially if you plan to make closed. (There is extra canopy given for F-104 near TF-104canopy). Except that this model is pleasant model.

I have only one referance picture for this aircraft above and there is small history at www.pbase.com

I used AIRES detail set for cockpit and landing gear bay. Need a lot of sanding and dry fit to place resin. Especially resin landing gear bays, after lot of sanding symmetry is go off so this affects the angle of the gear strut and this affects attitude of fuselage over landing gear.

Pilot are resin from PJ Production which is well detailed.

Pitot tube from Qickboost.

All antennas scratch build from Evergreen plastic.

Decals are from TigerHead Decals.

All paints from Vallejo acrylics.

Turkish Air Force F-16C Block 50 151.Filo

IMG_2459

Hasegawa 1/48 scale F-16C kit box numbered 07232. Well detailed engraved panel lines, some small fitting problems, seam line along the two part canopy. No detail in the landing gear and gear bays. Air intake is 4 peaces. Thatswhy to make intake seamless is very difficult. Cockpit side panels good detailed but instrument panel and glare shield are too small. I preferred resin instead of the orijinal seat. Given weapons suitable for SEAD  (Suppression of Enemy Air Defences) operation F-16 but i convert the weapons for SEAD Training Mission to make this F-16C. Dummy AGM-88, Dummy AIM-9 and ACMI Pod. Paints are Vallejo Acrylics, clear varnish Tamiya X-22, mat varnish is Microscale. Decals are Caracal Models

I did some modifications to make more detailed finish;

Instrument panel Multi Function Display was created from plastic card and glare shield expanded to make its normal width.

Seam line over canopy was deleted  with sand paper, polished with nail polishing sponge.

Canopy inside was detailed by using plastic, putty and some wire.

I changed the canopy color. To make this i used mix of (%90) Tamiya X-22, (%5) Tamiya Smoke X-19, (%5) Tamiya Clear Yellow X-24. This mixture was sprayed to canopy with airbrush only one layer but thick as possible.

Landing gear bays and strut was detailed using combination of stretched sprue, wire, cable and some plastic parts.

Air intake was made seamless as possible after a lot of putty-sanding-painting process.

Strong metal wire was used for static dischargers.

IMG_2561

Evergreen plastic parts were added to detail inside of exhaust nozzle. Afterburner assembly was imitated from another model. Burned effect was made with dry pastel.

Radome and Radar Homing and Warning Sensors are  product of Royal Resin.

IFF Antennas and its base are Evergreen plastic.

And finished model.

F-8E “VF-111 Sundowners” Academy 1/72

United States Navy F-8E “VF-111 Sundowners”

This F-8E is 1/72 scale, Academy kit, box number 12434. Fully engraved panel line and rivets details. Details are clear and clean. Almost no fitting problem. Details in the landing gear bays are standart 1/72 scale detail but cockpit relatively better. Clear parts are enough clear, detailed and fitting good. Box gives MK-82 SNAKEYE bombs for alternative loading but they are not realistic. AIM-9 and Zuni rockets tubes are standart 1/72 scale.

There is no detail set used for this model. All improvements are scratch build

  • Nose gear strut extended nose up due to typical F-8’s aft center of gravity. Original one was totaly compressed.
  • All flaperon and slats are seperated to make down position.
  • Stretched sprue was use for switches inside of cockpit and some styrene sheets for panel base. Seat was detailed same way and belts made by using masking tape.
  • Landing gear bays are detailed with various wire and cables.
  • Some panels are opened over fuselage and detailed especially gun area. For detailing i used styrene sheets and sprue as always.
  • FOD Cover made by using styrene sheet to hide inside of the intake.

Vallejo Acrylics used for painting. Diluting with normal water. Matte and Gloss varnishes are Microscale Acrylics. Decals are kits decal, good quality.
